Solar Century Africa

Future energy and engineering powered by operational excellence.

Introduction

This case explores how Solar Century Africa (SCA), a leader in renewable energy facilities (engineering, design, project management) and trading, transitioned to missionX, a next-generation, all-in-one platform, and the benefits realized in terms of cost savings, process automation, and productivity gains.

The problem

SCA needed a way to track costs and effort across their many projects across Africa.

Complex projects, distributed teams, costs that accumulate throughout delivery, and revenue that is often tied to milestones make it harder to maintain a clear picture of performance. The bigger the project portfolio becomes, the harder it is to maintain a clear picture of performance without connecting delivery, people, and financials.

  • Project costs and actual spend
  • Time and effort by project
  • Revenue and delivery milestones
  • Cash flow between milestones
  • Progress against the delivery plan

The challenge

SCA needed more than another project management tool. It needed the operational pieces of the business to work together.

Time was being recorded separately from project costs. Project plans were separate from financial information. Milestones needed to be understood alongside revenue and cash flow. And as projects grew, there was no simple way to see where people and effort were being allocated.

The result was more reconciliation, more manual work, and less visibility into the true financial health of each project.

"We spent almost two years searching and evaluated almost every well-known project management platform on the market. We chose missionX after the first two demos."K. Maltezou | Corporate Projects Manager | BB Energy

The solution

After a successful demonstration with SCA's Head of Operations and his team, we mapped their existing projects, people, and processes into missionX.

Rather than starting with a blank system, SCA was able to configure the platform around the way the business already worked.

The setup was largely completed by SCA's own team, with the Head of Business Development configuring projects, people, and time tracking directly in missionX.

What would traditionally require a significant implementation effort became something the business could configure and manage itself.

  • Real-time cost tracking
  • Clarity around revenue milestones
  • Project planning and delivery
  • Project budgeting tied to financial reporting
  • Understanding where effort is being allocated

One view of the business

With projects, people, time, and financials connected in missionX, SCA gained a clearer view of how work was progressing and what it was costing.

For a business delivering complex engineering and energy projects, that meant less time spent assembling information and more time understanding what was happening across the portfolio.
