Financials setup

The codes your finance team works with, kept in one place and used everywhere in missionX. Go to Financials > Setup in the Organization workspace. Setup is open to organization admins and people with Manage Financials.

What you set up

TabWhat it does
Chart of AccountsYour GL accounts, each with a category (revenue, cost of sales, direct cost, operating expense, asset, liability or equity) that decides where it sits on the P&L. Add them by hand, or import them from QuickBooks or Business Central.
Cost CentersLink each to a department. New projects take their department's cost center automatically, and its time, expenses, invoices and POs carry it through to reports and exports.
Cost TypesThe cost categories you pick on budget line items and Gantt estimates.
Tax CodesNamed tax rates (VAT, sales tax and so on) with their own accounts, plus the default tax for new invoices. A client's own default tax always wins over the organization default.
Client POsPurchase orders from your clients, with what has been invoiced and paid against each one. Choose whether going over a PO warns you or refuses the invoice.
Posting AccountsThe default accounts for labour, expenses, vendor costs, revenue, receivables, payables and tax, plus an account for each expense code. Anything without its own account posts here.

Heads up: Accounts, cost centers and tax codes are archived, never deleted. Records already coded keep showing the name, and the code stops being offered for new work.

Where the codes show up

  • Projects carry a cost center, set when the project is created or later in its settings.
  • Client invoices pick up tax codes and client POs.
  • Purchase orders and vendor invoices carry GL accounts and cost centers. See Purchasing setup.
  • Expenses post to the account set for their expense code.
